TEARS (Acoustic) by NASHDADDY

About the song

TEARS is a song that NASHDADDY wrote late one night in the late summer of 2023. After lying awake in bed, emotional and crying, there was this struggle between feeling like he must be strong as a man and a father, and the need to let his emotions flow that have been held back in many ways since childhood. Raised in a home that was riddled with chaos, abuse, drugs, and alcohol, it would often lead to an emotional outpour that would many times be brushed aside by his father, and told to stop crying and act like a man.

This song is a cry for help and a song of hope and empowerment for those men (and truly, everyone) who struggles to show emotion or often bottles it up inside, leaving us feeling mentally, emotionally, and physically ill. Having struggled with PTSD, anxiety, depression, suicide, and addiction, NASHDADDY puts his heart and soul into the lyrics of this song, reminding the listener that it’s okay to cry and okay to feel, that those tears don’t make you weak.

The acoustic version of this song was something that felt even more intimate and soft, with a loving message of hope for those who are in the dark corners of their mind and struggling to feel. It also serves as words of empowerment and ownership over his tears and a message to his sons. In a world with the term toxic masculinity quietly killing men all around the world in fear of showing their feelings, TEARS is a bold call to action for anyone who hears it, and a reminder that we are all human, we all cry, we all feel, and we all hurt at times.

Song Lyrics for TEARS (Acoustic)

(spoken)
This song is for anyone that ever felt like they couldn't cry,
they couldn't feel.
I'm just here to tell you it's never too late.
Let it flow.

Yeah

VERSE 1
🎵 Ain't nothing wrong with crying,
Damn, we all shed tears.
We cry for people that we lost,
and we cry of our fears.

Try to hold back the emotion
but damn, it's making me ill.
See, those tears don't make you weak,
they just mean you can feel.

CHORUS
I'll see you later, happiness.
It's my turn for some pain.
You can't appreciate that sun
until you're standing in the rain

happiness comes.
and happiness goes
but the only thing I know
Is Imma let these tears flow (yeah)

VERSE 2
hold your chin up (whoo)
look them in the eye
show 'em how strong you are
never let them see you cry

I just say nah fam, I'm good
knowing deep down I'm lying
but I cant hold back the tears
they coming like a flood cause they've been held back for years

we always putting on a front
try to wear a happy face
Cause we knowing that deep down
we've grown tired of this place

our bodies are beaten
our souls' feeling weak
the world just keeps taking shots at us
and we just turn the other cheek

VERSE 3
we gonna lose some day ones
And we're gonna take some Ls
but when we live in the past
we create our own hell

we stay in it, dwell in it
night and day, we can't sleep
they say no rest for the wicked
I lie my head down and weep

thought I had it all figured out
started making those plans
but life changed up quick
now my hearts in my hands

guess I couldn't predict it
yeah, had it mapped out for years
I guess I'm stuck with these fears
I guess I'm crying these tears

BRIDGE
yeah, I keep pushing it down
try to pretend it ain't there
but if you ever need to see the pain
I'll go look in the mirror

CHORUS
so I'll see you later, happiness.
It's my turn for some pain.
You Can't appreciate the sun
until you're standing in the rain

So happiness comes.
and happiness goes
but the only thing that I know (mm)
Is Imma let these tears flow
(yeah)
See, Imma let these tears flow.

OUTRO (Spoken)
We gotta just...
Learn as men, learn as human beings.
It's okay to cry.
It's okay to feel.
You're not alone.
You matter.
You're loved.
Don't give up.

Yeah
